Sunny

Questions & answers

Everything people ask about Sunny: the method, reliability, privacy and pricing. Something missing? Email [email protected].

What is Sunny?
Sunny is a focus timer for iOS, Android and macOS built on multi-activity interval switching: instead of alternating work and rest like a Pomodoro timer, you alternate between two or more activities you chose, each with its own timed or until-done rule. It works completely offline, requires no account, shows no ads, and the full timer is free forever.
What is multi-activity interval switching?
Multi-activity interval switching is a focus method where you cycle between chosen activities at intervals. For example: deep work for 25 minutes, then email for 10, then back. The switch itself acts as a mental reset, so the “break” can be a second productive activity. Read the full write-up on the method page.
How is Sunny different from a Pomodoro app?
Pomodoro apps model work followed by an idle break, with one fixed rhythm. In Sunny, both sides of the loop are real activities of your choice, each side can have a different rule (25 minutes here, until-done there, 7 minutes somewhere else), and you can adjust mid-session. If you want plain Pomodoro, Sunny does that too: the Classic 25/5 preset is one tap.
Does Sunny support Flowtime?
Yes. Sunny's 'until done' rule is Flowtime applied to alternation: no countdown, no counting. Work until you finish what you intended, then tap Switch. You can mix rules freely, for example a timed activity on one side and an until-done activity on the other.
Does the timer keep working when I lock my phone or quit the app?
Yes. This is Sunny's core engineering promise. Time is anchored to wall-clock timestamps, never a running counter, so backgrounding or locking the phone cannot drift the clock. Interval ends ring through exact scheduled alarms even when the app is suspended or killed. On iOS a Live Activity shows a self-updating countdown ring on the lock screen; on Android a foreground-service notification counts down live. If the OS kills the app mid-session, the session is restored exactly on relaunch, including the time that passed while the app was dead.
Does Sunny work offline? Do I need an account?
Sunny is local-first: it works fully offline, there is no account, no sign-in, and no cloud. Everything lives on your device. The only network activity is verifying a Pro purchase (App Store / Google Play and RevenueCat).
What data does Sunny collect?
No personal data. Sunny has no analytics, no ads, no trackers and no accounts, and your session history never leaves your device (you can export it yourself as CSV with Sunny Pro). The only thing shared is your purchase history, sent with an anonymous ID to RevenueCat to verify Sunny Pro.
What is free and what is Pro?
The full timer is free forever: unlimited sessions, multi-activity switching, timed and until-done rules, presets, widgets, lock-screen timer and reliability features. Sunny Pro adds unlimited saved sets and activities, history and stats with a 14-day chart, milestones, and CSV export.
Is Sunny Pro a subscription?
Only if you want it to be. Pro is available as a one-time lifetime purchase (best value: pay once, keep it forever), a yearly plan with a 7-day free trial, or a monthly plan. Prices are shown localized in the app.
Which platforms does Sunny run on?
Sunny runs on iOS, Android and macOS. Lock-screen Live Activities need iOS 16.1 or later and home-screen widgets need iOS 17; on older versions the scheduled alarm notifications still ring on time. On Android, a Reliability screen checks notification, exact-alarm and battery-optimization settings with one-tap fixes.
What activities work best with the method?
Bounded, well-defined activities fit best: clearing an inbox, a set number of pages, one section of a report, a review pass, a practice drill. Deep-context work like programming tends to fit less well at short intervals, because rebuilding context after each switch is expensive; give it longer intervals or an until-done rule. Two activities is the sweet spot to start, and Sunny supports three or more once you know your rhythm.
Is Sunny useful for ADHD?
Many people with ADHD find alternation easier than forced idle breaks, because novelty is built into the loop: the next activity is a reward rather than a pause. Sunny also avoids guilt mechanics. Streaks are positive-only, there are no shame notifications, and reminders are gentle and opt-in. That said, Sunny is a timer, not a medical tool.
